Can we still study abroad?

Can we still study abroad?

Can we still study abroad given the current political situation?
Short answer? Yes.
But the longer answer is: Yes — if we understand the landscape has changed.
Over the past year, I've heard this question more than ever from students, parents, and even school leaders. And they’re not wrong to ask.
Because let’s be real:
Canada is capping international student visas to address housing and inflation.
The UK has banned dependents for most Master’s students.
In parts of Europe, visa rejections are rising — with no clear reasons, and little recourse.
I’ve worked in academia, and education consulting with HustleEd Consultants , because I saw how many brilliant, committed students were being let down, not by lack of talent, but by lack of strategy, mentorship, and up-to-date information.
Some of my students win scholarships of $25,000 a year or more.
Still, they face last-minute documentation issues, delayed embassy appointments, and the quiet fear:
Will I be welcome? Will I belong?
So: Is studying abroad still possible?
Yes. But it takes more than marks and ambition.
It takes: A realistic, country-specific plan — not generic templates
Early, research-backed profile building (not just test scores)
Writing that tells a story, especially in a world where AI is everywhere
And perhaps most importantly: human support
Not every student can afford confusion. Not every family can afford to make a mistake.
That’s why this conversation matters.
If you’re a student, a parent, or an educator asking these questions — let’s talk. We owe it to our students to stop offering outdated advice.
We owe them clarity, not just hope.
